Kentucky Math Video from YouTube

The video I have posted is from youtube and shows an excerpt from: Ma and Pa Kettle Back on the Farm (1951)

I have chosen this video as it is entertaining and shows an amusing aspect to mathematical mistakes. Mathematics is one of my teaching areas so this could be useful to have the students reflect on some of the maths skills they have previously been taught and how understanding maths can be useful in real world situations. The video made me think twice about maths the first time I saw it. Another idea for teaching would be to have students act the scene out for a class.

Video is a great digital pedagogy medium as it can be used to demonstrate many different topics and can be repeated or replayed if required. Videos that cover many situations can be easily found on youtube, teachertube or elsewhere on the Internet.

Videos can also be used to show a learning situation would has some danger associated with it such as some Physics or chemical experiments. By using a video we can remove the danger from the classroom so there is no risk to students. Animations and simulations such as Circuits could also be used to remove risk while allowing the students to be create their own electrical circuit experiment.
